The Clarets swapped places with Everton — who were due to face Liverpool at Anfield in the Merseyside derby — as Matej Vydra’s second half finish proved decisive.
The Czech striker was Mike Jackson’s only change from the midweek successive over Southampton due to Maxwel Cornet’s absence through injury.
And the 29-year-old, who hadn’t found the net since his equaliser against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, proved his worth when guiding Wout Weghorst’s pass past Jose Sa just after the hour.
Here are the ratings.

5. James Tarkowski 8.5
Running out of superlatives to describe the centre-back's displays at present. Another commanding and unflustered performance at the back to limit Wolves' chances. Made an excellent, though slightly risky, challenge on Neto inside the box and almost scored from distance when Sa was stuck in 'No Man's Land'. His partnership with Collins flourishes week on week. 6. Dwight McNeil 8.5
Unplayable at times yet again. His wizardry on the ball was too much for the opposition to handle at times as he slid through the lines like a knife through butter. Didn't get the reward he deserved following a dazzling run early doors, but unlocked doors in the Wolves defence time and time again with inventive slide rule passes. One such moment of brilliance led to Burnley's winner. (Photo by Lewis Storey/Getty Images) Photo: Lewis Storey

7. Jay Rodriguez 7
Worked tirelessly up and down to shut of Wolves' right hand side. Turned possession over high up the pitch to get the Clarets on the front foot and linked up well. Appeared to pick up a knock in the first half and was eventually replaced by Barnes just after the hour. (Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images) Photo: Alex Livesey

8. Josh Brownhill 8
Forced to give chase a number of times when the visitors broke through the middle, but recovered well to slow those counters. Energetic off the ball, tidy in possession and broke up play particularly well when Wolves attempted to break the lines. Another promising performance.
