The Clarets struggled to create any clear-cut chances of note as they were frustrated by a stubborn and well organised PNE outfit.
By comparison, Preston had two or three good openings in a first-half where they were by far the better team, but failed to capitalise on a sloppy and tetchy Burnley display.
The second-half was a non-event in terms of action at both ends of the pitch, but tempers briefly flared when referee Gavin Ward let things boil over, subsequently handing out numerous cards when the game didn’t really merit it.
Here’s how Burnley’s players rated:

9. Luca Koleosho - 5/10
Burnley struggled to get him in the game in the first-half. Saw more of the ball in the second period but too often cut inside and ran into traffic. Photo: Kelvin Lister-Stuttard

10. Jaidon Anthony - 6/10
Brought a good save out of the goalkeeper in the first-half with a curling effort that was beaten away. Photo: Kelvin Lister-Stuttard

11. Lyle Foster - 5/10
Too often left isolated and got no change out of Preston’s dominant centre-halves. In need of more support. Photo: Kelvin Lister-Stuttard

12. SUB: Connor Roberts - 6/10
Connor Roberts - 6 For Humphreys, 46 Fairly solid and reliable on his return from injury. You'd imagine he will start back at right-back after the international break. Photo: Kelvin Lister-Stuttard
