Zeki Amdouni reflects on return to scoring ways
Zeki Amdouni admits his return to scoring ways for Burnley at Wrexham meant a lot to him on a personal level.
The forward scored his first goal since a June 2025 strike for Switzerland during Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw against Wrexham.
Amdouni did well to control Largie Ramazani’s through ball before slotting past the onrushing goalkeeper to give the Clarets a first-half lead.
While the goal wasn’t enough to secure Nicky Hayen’s side the three points, the 25-year-old was delighted to be back on the scoresheet.
It was actually his first goal in Burnley colours in over two years, having been out on loan with Benfica before missing almost the entirety of last season with an ACL injury.
“To play regularly on the pitch now, it’s good for me,” Amdouni told Burnley’s YouTube channel. “But to have scored this also meant a lot because the last time I scored was maybe one-and-a-half years ago, before my injury.
“I’m very happy to have scored this goal. It would have been better with a win, but we take this point and we go again.”
It’s another quick turnaround for the Clarets, who return to Wales this weekend to face Swansea City.
“The good thing about playing every three days is that you can build on each game,” Amdouni added. “But even when you lose, you can forget about this one and go again.
“We don’t have many days to train and build something, but we have to build on this, especially this first-half and maybe a little bit on the second half.
“After the last few games, it’s good to take this point. I’m happy as well to have scored my first goal for a long time, but we have to build on this game and go again on Saturday and try and win a game now.
“[For the goal] I saw the space and Largie gave me a beautiful pass, but I think in some other positions I have to do better myself, also the last choice. But we’ll work on it.
“It’s good for me to play games and to play 90 minutes, so I can be good on my side. It’s onto Saturday now.”
