Wrexham v Burnley: Team news, predicted teams and TV details
Everything you need to know ahead of Wrexham v Burnley
After failing to end that long wait for a win with back-to-back home games, Burnley are back on their travels today.
Nicky Hayen’s side head to Wrexham for the first of two trips to Wales, with a long journey to Swansea City also on the horizon this weekend.
The Clarets come into the game off the back of a demoralising 2-1 defeat to Bristol City at the weekend, where they threw away the lead to lose for the third time this season in the league.
It leaves them bottom of the Championship table and still without a win since February.
As for Wrexham, they drew 0-0 with Swansea at the weekend to leave them 11th in the table on six points.
Here’s all the important information ahead of tonight’s fixture:
When and where is the game taking place?
The match is being held at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground on Tuesday, September 8. Kick off is at 7.45pm.
Is it on TV?
Yes. While it’s not the selected game, it will still be available to view on Sky Sports+.
How else can I follow the game?
Burnley FC writer Matt Scrafton will be providing live updates on his X feed, followed by a match report, post-match reaction and further analysis on the Burnley Express’ website.
What’s the latest team news?
Lucas Pires is back available for selection after serving his concussion protocol following the accidental clash of heads at Bradford City.
Jamie Vardy is in line to make his Clarets debut following his surprise free transfer signing, but Jordan Beyer, Bashir Humphreys, Josh Cullen, Enock Agyei, Jaydon Banel, Dastan Satpayev and Ashley Barnes are all out injured.
As for Wrexham, Liberato Cacace is expected to miss out again, having not played yet so far this season through injury.
Ben Sheaf and Nathan Broadhead are closing in on a return, but it remains to be seen if they’ll be fully fit in time for this game.
Former Claret Joe Worrall, who made the deadline day move to Wrexham, could make his debut after being an unused substitute at the weekend.
Nicky Hayen’s pre-match comments
“We cannot stay in this negativity, because if we stay negative, you never, ever come out of this situation.
“So what we have to do is we have to tell them [the players] the truth, we have to show them the images, and they know there will be images that are not good.
“But also by showing these images and having these individual conversations, you have to give them also a positive message, because we have the qualities to change this around. “But I said it's a little bit the mental part, because you already didn't have a win for a long time, it's the fitness part.
“It's also like new players creating a new team, creating a new vibe, creating a new core, and this needs time. And of course I wanted to win today, and everyone went home with a quite satisfying feeling, but instead of that, it became even worse.”
What are the predicted teams?
Wrexham: Patterson, Cleworth, Hyam, Doyle, Imray, James, Whiteman, Ekomie, Windass, O’Hare, Moore
Burnley: Weiss, Walker, Ahmedhodzic, Alleyne, Sonne, Raghouber, Laurent, Hatate, Ramazani, Bruun Larsen, Vardy
Who is the referee?
Tim Robinson. He’s overseen three games so far this season, dishing out seven yellow cards but no reds. Robinson took charge of three Burnley games last season, the 2-0 win against Leeds United and the defeats to Brighton and Everton by the same scoreline. Anthony Backhouse is fourth official.
