Josh Laurent provides ‘childish’ verdict on Burnley’s defeat to Swansea
A visibly hurt Josh Laurent brandished Burnley’s display “childish” during their miserable defeat to Swansea City.
The Clarets’ winless start to the new season continued with a 3-1 loss in South Wales on Saturday, as Nicky Hayen’s side slumped to the bottom of the Championship table.
It felt like another self-inflicted setback, with the visitors gifting Swansea two of their three goals.
Reflecting on the game, Laurent told Burnley’s official YouTube channel: “Tough, of course tough. My honest feeling right now is we’re a bit childish, a bit young. Inexperienced of the league, naive, I think.
“In isolation of 90 minutes, we created chances, looked good in moments of the game, away from home, good team. Created chances, as I say again, in big moments.
“I'm not sure I have to watch it again, but apparently Connor Roberts is not offside for one of the goals. I'm not sure there’s a foul [for Lucas Pires’ disallowed goal] and we hit the crossbar, so there’s big chances.
“Sonny [Oliver Sonne] has a big chance before half-time as well, so, you know, chances were there and we weren't ruthless enough.
“But the childish nature of it, which we have to work on, these are two mistakes, two massive mistakes. And being this league, unforgiving league like it is, you can't keep trying to give yourself a mountain to climb. That's what we're doing at the moment, it's too much.
“Mistakes are crossing us at the moment and we have to man up. Be brave in certain moments and concentrate. Concentrate and we can't make these mistakes.
“Be away from home in the Championship. Just be ruthless. No risk and you stay in the game at 0-0, away from home.
“The quality we've got on the pitch, as we've shown, we can make chances. It will be dangerous, but the first rule is you've got to keep it tight and not give much away.
“At the moment we're giving far too much away and it's too easy for teams not having to work for their goals. We're just giving them goals from our mistakes.”
