Nicky Hayen issues clear message to Burnley fans and players

Burnley must not spiral into negativity.

That’s the message from Nicky Hayen to Burnley fans and players alike ahead of tonight’s trip to Wrexham.

It follows a nightmare start to the season, which sees the Clarets prop up the Championship table with no win from their first five games.

There were angry scenes at Turf Moor on Saturday as Burnley threw away the lead - and the chance to win for the first time since February - to lose 2-1 late on to Bristol City.

Hayen will now be desperate to see some sort of reaction from his side when they travel to the Racecourse Ground tonight.

When asked what his message was to his players ahead of tonight’s game, Hayen said: “So it's also something maybe towards the fans, but actually also towards the players. We cannot stay in this negativity.

“If we stay negative, you never, ever come out of this situation.

“So what we have to do is we have to tell them the truth, we have to show them the images, and they know there will be images that are not good.

“But also by showing these images and having these individual conversations, you have to give them also a positive message, because we have the qualities to change this around. “But I said it's a little bit the mental part, because you already didn't have a win for a long time. But it's also the fitness part.

“It's also like new players creating a new team, creating a new vibe, creating a new core, and this needs time.

“And of course I wanted to win [against Bristol City], and everyone went home with a quite satisfying feeling, but instead of that, it became even worse.”
