Nicky Hayen provides update on free spot in Burnley's 25-man squad list
Burnley still deliberating over final spot in 25-man squad list
Nicky Hayen admits Burnley are still yet to decide who will take the final spot in their 25-man squad list.
Following the recent closure of the summer transfer window, the Clarets were required to submit the list of players they will be using up until January.
They named just 24 players, leaving one spot free.
One of Marcus Edwards or Mike Tresor, two of eight Burnley players to be omitted from the squad list, could be added back in at any time.
But Hayen hasn’t also ruled out returning to the free agent market, having recently acquired the services of the out-of-contract Jamie Vardy.
When asked if any decision has been made on that final spot, Hayen said: “No, not yet. This is also this week, how we're going to deal with it.
“Are we doing it this week or do we take the international break for it? That's something we have to discuss.”
Hayen recently revealed that, while he doesn’t rule out Edwards or Tresor being registered, the duo have been told they’re free to leave should an opportunity elsewhere arise.
It comes after the the two wide men were left out alongside Ben Amos, Jordan Beyer, Bashir Humphreys, Shurandy Sambo, Ashley Barnes and Michael Obafemi.
“I already informed the players one or two weeks ago that we're looking for players, and if they had an option they could go,” he said after the 1-1 draw at Wrexham.
“But there are still spots available. Now, with the signing of Jamie [Vardy] of course one [spot is still free].
“So we'll see if Marcus or Mike fill in that spot, but I informed them already that there's a possibility that they don't make the squad list.”
