Why new signing Jamie Vardy misses out for Burnley against Wrexham
Jamie Vardy not involved for Burnley at Wrexham
Jamie Vardy is not involved for Burnley at Wrexham tonight despite his recent arrival.
The 39-year-old clinched a free transfer to Turf Moor on Sunday to solve Burnley’s striking woes, following the deadline day departure of Zian Flemming.
But the former Leicester City man is not named in Nicky Hayen’s side at the Racecourse Ground due to suspension.
The one-game ban, due to accumulation of five yellow cards for his last club Cremonese, carries over from Serie A.
It means he’ll have to wait until Saturday’s trip to Swansea City to make his Burnley debut.
Nicky Hayen makes three changes to his side from Saturday’s painful 2-1 defeat to Bristol City, as Connor Roberts, Igor Julio and Zeki Amdouni come into the starting XI.
It’s a competitive debut for Igor following his deadline day move from Brighton.
Hjalmar Ekdal, Reo Hatate and Andreas Hountondji are the three to drop to the bench, as Hayen switches things up once again.
Three right-backs are named in the starting XI in Roberts, Oliver Sonne and Kyle Walker, suggesting a back five.
Jacob Bruun Larsen isn’t involved, but Lucas Pires returns from concussion protocol to be named among the substitutes.
Jordan Beyer, Bashir Humphreys, Josh Cullen, Hannibal, Enock Agyei, Jaydon Banel, Dastan Satpayev and Ashley Barnes are all sidelined.
Former Claret Joe Worrall remains on the bench for Wrexham, following his deadline day move to the Racecourse Ground.
