'Like a relationship': Hannibal discusses disconnect between Burnley and club's fanbase
Hannibal addresses the disconnect between Burnley and the fanbase
Hannibal is confident he and his Burnley teammates can get the supporters back on side despite the current disconnect.
Attendances dwindled towards the end of the season as the Clarets suffered their third consecutive relegation in the Premier League.
It was a particularly miserable campaign for Burnley, who won just four league games and amassed a dismal 22 points - the lowest in the club’s history in the three-point-for-a-win era.
While much remains unknown, with Burnley still without a manager, there will be plenty of pressure and expectation ahead of next season’s return to the Championship.
The Clarets boast an incredible record in the second tier in recent times, losing just five of their last 115 games in the Championship.
Should the club get off to a strong start next season, Hannibal believes it won’t be long until the fans fall back in “love” with their team.
“Football changes so quickly,” he told the club’s Keeping The Faith documentary on X.
“Now maybe the fans have a little bad feeling, but whatever happened at the end of the season happened.
“I feel like next season they can do something crazy and they can love us even more than they hated us this season.
“The more you love the club, the more you'll feel like when it's not very good, it's like a relationship.”
The club was recently quizzed about the perceived disconnect during the most recent Fan Advisory Board (FAB) meeting in April.
In response, supporters were told: Communication between the club and the fan base is fundamental to maintaining a strong and constructive relationship.
“The club remains committed to ongoing engagement with supporters and recognises the importance of ensuring open and regular dialogue.
“Accordingly, structured meetings with supporter representatives will continue to take place on a bi-monthly basis, providing an opportunity to review questions submitted, discuss key areas of interest, and share relevant updates from across the club.
“These sessions form part of the club’s wider commitment to supporter engagement and continuous improvement in communication and transparency.”
