However, barring an 18-month spell at Norwich City, the former Brighton & Hove Albion star has spent more than a decade at Turf Moor.

He has become a cult hero among supporters, making more than 300 appearances for the club, largely in the top flight, scoring 57 goals.

The Clarets have also revealed that they are in discussions with Axel Tuanzebe, who joined last summer from Ipswich Town, about a new deal.

The former Manchester United defender made 18 appearances for the club last season. He is currently on World Cup duty with DR Congo. Their first game is against Portugal on Wednesday.

One player who has been released is goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. The ex-Newcastle United No.1 played 35 times last season before losing his place to Max Weiß towards the end of the campaign.

He is joined through the exit door by fellow goalkeeper Vaclav Hladký.

One player who will remain at Turf Moor is midfielder Josh Laurent who has had a one-year option on his contract activated.

He played 36 times for the club last season and was part of the squad which won promotion from the Championship the season before.

Midfielder James Ward-Prowse will return to West Ham United following the end of his loan spell in the second-half of the season.

Oliver Sonne, Jaydon Banel, Andreas Hountondji, Michael Obafemi, Luca Koleosho, Aaron Ramsey, Oluwaseun Adewumi and Shurandy Sambo will all return to Burnley for pre-season following their respective loan spells away.
