Cesar Peixoto reveals secret ingredient behind Wolves' comeback win at Burnley
Cesar Peixoto’s verdict on Wolves’ comeback win over Burnley
Wolves boss Cesar Peixoto praised his side’s mentality as they came from behind to inflict even more misery on Burnley.
Goals from Fer Lopez and Tawanda Chirewa secured a 2-1 comeback victory for Peixoto’s side, who had come into the game off the back of consecutive defeats.
The result sparked angry scenes inside Turf Moor, as the Clarets’ winless league run on home turf stretched to an entire calendar year.
While both of their goals came via inexplicable Burnley mistakes, Peixoto felt his side were worthy winners.
“In the last game [against Bolton Wanderers] was an unfair fair result for us, we were the better team if you see the statistics, we are better in all of the moments but don’t score and they score,” he said.
“The Championship is like that, you can win, you can lose, our supporters have to understand that this Championship is very tough. You have got to fight to win all the games.
“Sometimes you don’t win, but not because you don’t want to. Today we win because we have the right mentality.
“Now we have three home games in a row. It is important that our supporters back us. These players work hard to bring happiness to these supporters.”
Peixoto added: “I’m happy with the game, we deserve to win.
“In the first 15 minutes we had difficulty with the pressure. But what makes the difference is we go to the game with the right mentality. It is an important victory, but only three points.
“When we analyse Burnley we know they want to build up, they want to play with the ball, they have quality. If you have the right triggers to press, to steal the ball, we can steal the ball like what happened today and I’m happy with that. We scored, we win.
“The mentality is what I want from the team, the way they played today, I want them to maintain this mentality in all the games. When they stay with this mentality it’s difficult to play against us.”
