Highly-rated Burnley youngster heads out on first loan to League Two outfit
Kian McMahon-Brown heads out on loan
Highly-rated Burnley striker Kian McMahon-Brown is to get his first taste of senior men’s football with Shrewsbury Town.
The 18-year-old has made the move to the League Two side on a season-long loan deal ahead of Tuesday night’s transfer deadline.
It comes after the forward ended speculation over his future by penning his first professional contract with the Clarets during the summer.
That came off the back of an impressive campaign last time out, winning the club’s academy player of the season award, having bagged 11 goals playing above his age with Andy Farrell’s Under-21 side.
In addition to that, he also bagged a further five times as the Under-18s reached the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup.
The striker, who was named on the bench for the first-team at Everton back in March and represented the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21 side this summer, also scored an impressive back heeled effort during the recent Premier League Cup final win over Sunderland.
“Kian is a really exciting player,” Shrews boss Gavin Cowan said.
“He’s young, this is his first loan, but he’s a player with a lot of potential and a really high ceiling.
“He’s a youth international striker and Burnley have very high hopes for him - they see him as a player with a bright future.
“From our perspective, we want to help him realise that potential. He gives us versatility as well because he can play as a nine, but he can also drop into that 10 position.
“We’re looking forward to working with him and helping him take the next step.”
