Burnley lose star man Zian Flemming right on deadline

Burnley have been dealt a deadline day hammer blow with the exit of star man Zian Flemming to Ipswich Town.

The Dutchman has completed a permanent move to Portman Road for a total package believed to be in the region of £20m.

It’s understood the Tractor Boys are paying an up front £17m, although the remaining £3m is being described as “hard to reach” by reports in Suffolk.

The deal is thought to have been on and off at several points throughout the day, following some late twists and turns.

But the deal has now been finalised, landing another major blow to Burnley who have already lost several of their key men this summer.

Speaking during his pre-Middlesbrough press conference earlier today, Burnley boss Nicky Hayen said the club would look to find a replacement for Flemming in the event of his sale.

“If he goes, and I say if he goes, I think we have to find a replacement,” he said.

“We're always busy with options, so if one player goes we also have a list that another player has to come so that's common business as usual.”

It’s understood Burnley are still working on another deal, although the player’s identity and his position is unclear.

A 2024 arrival from Millwall, Flemming bagged 14 goals in 37 appearances during his debut season, helping Scott Parker’s side win promotion to the Premier League.

He was the only real positive the following season as the Clarets suffered an instant relegation, scoring 11 times in 29 appearances in his debut campaign in the top flight.

The 28-year-old has already found the back of the net on three occasions this season.
