Burnley add former Bayern Munich Chinese starlet to Under-21 ranks

Former Bayern Munich youngster joins Burnley’s Under-21 side

Burnley have added an exciting young Chinese starlet to their Under-21 ranks.

Jiaming Zhang has penned a one-year deal with the Clarets and will now link up with Andy Farrell and Charlie Adam’s side.

Despite being aged just 19, the forward already has a fair amount of senior experience under his belt having turned out for Liaoning Tieren in the Chinese second tier.

Zhang made his debut aged just 16 in 2023 and bagged his first senior goals in a Chinese FA Cup tie a year later.

After bagging six goals in 28 appearances, Zhang was invited by Bayern Munich to be a part of their World Squad Initiative in June 2025.

Then came a spell at Serbian outfit FK Voždovac, in which he netted three goals in four appearances for their Under-19s.

Zhang also earned his first China Under-20 cap earlier this year, coming on as a half-time substitute in a friendly against Australia in front of more than 6,000 fans.

“I like this club,” Zhang said of his move.

“I’ve played in Serbia for the last six months and I think that playing in Europe is quite challenging.

“I wouldn’t say I’m a traditional kind of striker. I like to be flexible and move around the pitch, coming back to help defend as well as organising the team’s attacks going forwards.

“I spoke to the coaches when I was on trial, mainly around tactics and how the league works here.

“Hopefully, I can play during the pre-season period and continue to learn the game.”
