Burnley-born keeper Fulton targets Pompey promotion!

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp allowed the 19-year-old to move to Fratton Park on loan until the end of the season to provide the Reds stopper with some valuable first team experience.

The Anfield teenager made his Pompey bow in the 1-0 defeat to Oxford United, where he denied Liam Sercombe from the spot having initially upended Danny Hylton, and went on to feature in the South Coast derby against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

Fulton was also involved in the stalemate against Morecambe at the Globe Arena midweek where, incredibly, he was beaten by Shrimps goalkeeper Barry Roche in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

With Paul Cook’s side sitting fifth in the fourth tier in their chase for the top three, Fulton, who is sharing accommodation with former Claret Robbie Blake, said: “The aim for the club is promotion. Everyone associated with the club wants to get back to where they were.

“It’s special to be a part of it and I’m proud to be involved at a club with such a big history. We’re all fighting for something bigger - we want to get out of this division.

“Being involved in a promotion push is a big thing and I’ll just try to enjoy it. It all adds to the experience.

“My debut was quality, a massive moment for me. It was a big crowd, almost a sell-out, they were loud and really got behind the team. It was a great experience.

“It just gives me the hunger to play more games. I’ve already gained some valuable experience and I’ll just hope to kick on now.”

After facing a top flight club in only his second appearance, as Josh King and Marc Pugh scored for the Cherries to cancel out Gary Roberts’ tap in, earning Eddie Howe’s men a home tie with Everton in the fifth round,the Scotland Under-21 international added: “It was a massive game. There was a lot on it with the tie being a derby.

“I thought the atmosphere against Oxford was good but it was bouncing at the weekend.

“It’s just crazy. I’ve always dreamt about this moment but I never imagined that I’d be doing it so soon.

“Playing in the FA Cup is every lads dream growing up, it’s a massive competition, so it was great to be involved.

“Playing against a Premier League team is now something else I have under my belt.”

Fulton, who was called upon after Brian Murphy picked up an injury, faces Kevin Nolan’s Leyton Orient on home soil tomorrow.
