Battle against the elements for Sabden FC


A valiant effort from both teams in horrendous conditions saw the home team come out on top in the final reckoning.
Sabden took a deserved lead on 31 minutes, Jack Birkett nodding in an Adam Fuller flick-on from a Ryan Graves free kick.

Hide AdSabden defended resolutely throughout the first half, but on 43 minutes, they let their guard down and were punished by a smart finish.
Playing into the wind in the second half, Sabden had to battle the elements, and the gathering blizzard did not help matters.
A long punt downfield on 51 minutes from the Knees’ keeper evaded the defence and the striker made no mistake to put the home side 2-1 up.
Sabden battled hard to put pressure on Knees, and looked the more likely side until a breakaway goal on 74 minutes made the score 3-1 - the referee choosing to ignore the linesman flagging for offside!
A late tap in from Paul Astin, following excellent work from David Fallon, proved mere consolation.
