Two-day Towneley Live music festival planned for 2013

ONE of Burnley’s biggest live music festivals is to return next summer as a huge two-day event.

Towneley Live, which featured some of Britain’s hottest pop bands last summer, had to be shelved this year due to pressures from the London 2012 Olympics.

But promoters have announced they are working with big names to bring the festival back to Burnley for an extra-special event in 2013.

The popular festival saw a bumper crowd of 12,000 music fans turn out to the inaugural event last year.

Hopes were that the festival would be hosted in Burnley again in September – but the dates have been moved back to July next year.

Speaking of the announcement, a spokesman for LiveWyre Ltd said: “Towneley Live 2011 was an enormous success, and despite early logistical problems, the people of Burnley came out to support the event.

“Our intention was always to make the event an annual date in the calendar, however we have decided to take a year out in 2012 so we can make 2013 extra special.

“In 2013 we will see the event increased to a two-day event, and we are planning on making lots of improvements to the event site following feedback from customers. We are working on some really exciting acts for 2013, and really do hope to put Burnley on the map.”

Coun. John Harbour, Burnley Council’s Executive Member for Sport and Culture said: “We fully understand the decision of the organisers to take a year out in 2012. They have discussed their early plans for 2013 with us and they are very exciting and will definitely take the event up to new heights.”

Details of the 2013 event will be available via the official Facebook page www.facebook.com/towneleylive towards the end of 2012.
