The incident, in the Burneside area of the Lakes Line, is causing significant disruption to Northern services.

As a result, all rail services between Oxenholme and Windermere are suspended until further notice with rail replacement buses operating between the two stations, calling at all points in-between.

Colleagues from Network Rail are on-site assessing the problem, but services will be disrupted until further notice.

Northern customers are advised to allow additional time for any journeys and to check ahead before travelling as road conditions are poor and further changes to the availability of services are possible.

Customers travelling between the Lake District and Manchester Airport are able to use TransPennine Express services from Oxenholme and Avanti West Coast services between Oxenholme and Wigan.

Chris Jackson, regional director at Northern, said: “We’re doing all we can, in partnership with colleagues at Network Rail, to keep our customers on the move. We’re operating buses where possible and have arranged ticket acceptance with other operators to and from Manchester Airport.

“The wintry weather continues to cause significant problems for our customers in Cumbria and I’d like to thank them for their patience and understanding.”
