Todmorden Curve due to open in May

The Todmorden Curve rail link – which will provide a direct train service to Manchester – is still on track to open in May.

The long-awaited reinstatement of the stretch of track has experienced considerable delays due to a lack of rolling stock and signalling.

But Richard Watts, Rail Development team manager at Lancashire County Council, said: “Network Rail completed the final handover of the Todmorden Curve on February 8th following which Northern Rail began a programme of crew training.

“All parties are working towards the extension of passenger services from Todmorden to Burnley Manchester Road, Rosegrove, Accrington and Blackburn from the start of the summer timetable on Sunday, May 17th.

“Lancashire County Council has negotiated final terms with Northern Rail and we expect to present a report to the Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation for a decision to formally agree the finances.”

This decision is due to be taken on Thursday.
