Teenager seriously injured after smash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was seriously injured following a collision in Nelson.

The incident happened at around 7am on Sunday when a Toyota Yaris, travelling along Halifax Road towards Hibson Road, collided head on with a Suzuki Grand Vitara which was turning left from Hibson Road into Halifax Road.

The driver of the Toyota, an 18-year-old man from Nelson, suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The Suzuki driver, a 61-year-old man, suffered whiplash.

Sgt Dave Hurst of the Road Policing Unit said: “This collision has left one man with serious head injuries and I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened to contact us with any information.”
