Luke (13) was knocked over in February on Lyndhurst Road after going out to buy some cereal and suffered serious head injuries.

It was touch and go whether he would survive but he is making progress at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool where he has undergone a number of operations.

His school, Blessed Trinity, as well as raising £430 at a Tesco bag pack, decided to have a cabaret night to raise money for Luke’s on-going treatment and for his parents, Sarah and Ben – who attended on the night – to help with their costs as they have four other younger children Madison, Mia, Lillie and Harlo.

And Luke will be shown the DVD of the night as he continues his recovery.

There was certainly plenty of entertainment as the female PE staff did a version of ‘The Full Monty’ – which didn’t involve stripping –and PE teacher John Kelly dressed up as Barbie and Accelerated Progress teacher Sam Tasker as Ken as they did a version of Barbie Girl by Aqua.

There was a Grease megamix by teachers, the office staff carried out their rehearsed cheerleading routine, while members of the Senior Leadership Team got involved in some Irish dancing.

The students showed a bit more talent with musician James Targett playing a piano recital while there was a tap dancing performance, singing and more.

The night, which was put together by Curriculum Leader for Technology Eamon Robinson and Year 10 Leader Donna Fielding, ended with Headteacher Richard Varey being involved in a rendition of Mustang Sally.

School chaplain Jessica Wilkinson, who has taken students over to see Luke at Alder Hey, said: “It was a great night and we will take a DVD of the night over to show Luke and hopefully it will help his recovery.”

Dad Ben Mason was lucky in the raffle as Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton had personally donated a pair of signed gloves – and he won them.
