Liberal Democrat councillor Jeff Sumner defects to Reform UK on Burnley Borough Council

A second Burnley councillor has chosen to defect from his party and join Reform UK.

Coun. Jeff Sumner, who represents the Rosehill with Burnley Wood ward, this week joined Reform from the Liberal Democrats.

He will sit alongside Coun. Alan Hosker who joined the party earlier this month from the Conservatives, bringing the total number of Reform councillors on Burnley Borough Council to two.

Coun. Sumner has been a Burnley Borough Councillor for 20 years. He was the Mayor of the Borough of Burnley in 2016/17 and represented the Burnley South West ward on Lancashire County Council for 12 years.

Coun. Sumner said: “The country definitely needs to change and it cannot carry on as it is now. We need politicians to see the strength of the feeling throughout Britain and its people, which is why I'm joining Reform UK.

“The government should focus on closing the loopholes that allow blackmarket operators to thrive and concentrate on looking after its own people, citizens and communities.”
