Police appeal after Brierfield bag snatch

Police are appealing for information after a woman had her handbag snatched in Brierfield.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was approached from behind by two men outside Right Way Builders on Burnley Road at about 7-30pm on Friday.

One of the men tried to steal her handbag from over her shoulder and the victim bravely clung on to her bag.  The same male then punched her to the face and stole the handbag.

It is believed the offender and his friend then made off down Railway Street, Brierfield.

The offender is described as 20-30 years old, approximately 5ft 9ins in height, thin build, wearing dark clothing.  He wore a distinctive black and white checked scarf around his face.  The victim’s bag is described as a large matt black Primark shoulder bag and it contained £100 in cash.

Det. Sgt Alisa Wilson, of East CID, said: “This must have been a very scary experience for the victim. We are treating this very seriously and I would appeal for anyone with information to get in touch.”
