Donations of tasty treats will help pupils at Burnley primary school settle back into the classroom

The Iceland store in Burnley s Charter Walk donated 1,000 crumpets to St Mary Magdalene's RC Primary School as students returned to their classrooms this week for the first time in months.

Iceland is donating crumpets to schools and nurseries across the town. Customers were asked to help the appeal by purchasing a pack while doing their shopping and the store topped up the donations.

St Mary Magdalene's students have also received a donation of biscuits as a break time treat from Burnley based NW Recruitment Services Ltd.

Sarah Ginn, who is the school business manager, said: "Donations like this are amazing for the school. We can't thank everyone enough.

"Having the children back in school is wonderful, we want them to feel settled back in the classroom.

"We have done lots of preparation, including training on the recovery curriculum, to enable the children to engage well in their learning and these little treats will help them feel safe and happy back at school. "

Staff and pupils at the Wellfield Drive school made the first day back one to remember by creating a colourful balloon arch at the entrance gates. And the gesture brought some smiles from children, parents and staff.
