As reported in the Burnley Express, thousands of homes were left without power when a fire broke out following an explosion at the sub-station in Brownside Road, Worsthorne-with-Hurstwood.

The powercut has also forced the temporary closure of nearby Worsthorne Primary School which was without water and power.

This week, workmen from Electricity North West bagn work to replace cables damaged in the incident.

Dave Kenneford, who is overseeing the work for Electricity North West, said: “We’re working to replace 2km of underground electricity cable that was damaged following an incident last month at a substation on Brownside Road in Burnley.

"We’ve worked alongside Lancashire County Council who have agreed to delay some road-resurfacing work, to enable the electricity work to be completed as soon as possible.

“We’ve notified 300 residents by letter and we expect this critical work to repair the network to take between six and eight weeks. We are hugely appreciative of our teams who are working in difficult conditions at the moment to keep power flowing. If anybody requires any further information, they can contact us by calling 105.”
