Cyber attack on Burnley Council brings website down

The council said it is actively working to resolve the issue and restore full functionality as soon as possible. At this time, the council has no evidence to suggest that any data has been compromised.

Hide AdA number of councils, including Tameside Council and Salford City Council, have recently been targeted. These attacks, known as distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, flood websites with traffic, causing significant disruption.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has been providing guidance to affected local authorities.
Lukman Patel, chief executive of Burnley Council, said: “We have alerted the NCSC to this issue and we are actively working with our IT team and cyber security officers to address this issue. Our priority is to restore our online services and ensure the security of our systems. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents during this time.”
