Residents of the Manor House Nursing Home in Chatburn didn't let lockdown ruin their plans to ring in the Year of the Ox. Instead, they enjoyed several fun ways to mark the special event.

The home was trimmed up for the occasion with flags, Chinese lanterns and the team dressed up in traditional Chinese tops and Cooley hats. The residents in each lounge enjoyed a Chinese quiz, word search and learning about the history, culture and customs of China.

Each resident got to know the animal of their birth year and predicted personality and fortune scrolls were opened. The residents got into the spirit of the celebration by savouring a delicious Chinese tasting banquet including chicken chow mien, egg fried rice and prawn crackers.

A spokesman for the Manor House said: "The day was enjoyed by all and wasn’t dampened with the necessity of social distancing and the team wearing PPE."
