Why did PM’s barber get an MBE?

In a recent issue, local MP Andrew Stephenson left no one in the slightest doubt about his unequivocal backing of the honours system.

Let me refresh memories about just two of the Parliamentarian’s quotes: “The honours system recognises people of outstanding merit and those who committed themselves to service to the nation.

“Achievement comes in many forms but honours committees are looking for someone who has made a difference in their field of work or community”.

If our MP does indeed know the answer, perhaps he can spill the beans and let us know by what yardstick - outstanding merit or service to the nation - did Prime Minister David Cameron’s £90-a-time barber qualify for his MBE?

Major donors to political parties and Government cronies are frequently recognised for some gong or another.

Why? Your guess is as good as mine. Would it be such a retrograde step if all the ancient honours caboodle was scrapped? The quicker the better - and certainly before multi-millionaires such as David Beckham and Andy Murray feel the tip of the sword on their shoulders.
