Were ‘super schools’ a knee-jerk reaction?

The fact some of our so-called “super schools” are thriving while others seemingly flounder, will come as no surprise to many parents.

While we all welcomed the massive investment in Burnley’s high school provision, the whole process of re-structuring smacked of a knee-jerk reaction.

Instead of a taking a methodical and long-term strategic approach to secondary education across Burnley, those charged with re-drawing our educational map appear to have acted first and thought second.

What we are faced with now is a major pupil numbers conundrum with some schools hitting numbers targets while others struggle on from year to year. How long can they go on like that?
