The Government grant system isn’t fair

Drawing in the purse strings is never an easy task, just ask those in control of the finances at Burnley Town Hall.

After being forced to make swingeing cuts in 2014, local decision-makers face another period of cutbacks and one really does wonder just where they will turn to next.

Savings of £2.3m. already need to be found from the next financial year and this comes on the back of major cost-cutting during the current period.

Areas such as Burnley, where deprivation levels are among the highest in the country, need more Government support, not a reduction in central grants. Regardless of politics, the current grant system does not seem fair.
