‘No comment’ by defendants in Burnley double murder case

A JURY has been hearing details of how two men accused of a double murder at Burnley, made no comment answers to police questions.

Daniel Waddington and Kenneth Howson were asked by detectives if they were in any way responsible for the deaths of 55-year-olds James Atkinson and Neil Gilmore.

Preston Crown Court heard the defendant Waddington has ADHD. His solicitor had said at the time of interviews last October it would be inappropriate for him to answer any questions.

The 23-year-old of Pine Street, Burnley, and 25-year-old Howson, of Williams Road, Burnley both deny two allegations of murder.

The court was told that, during interview, police put the defendant Howson’s account to his co-defendant, where Howson is said to have implicated Waddington in the murders.

Again, Waddington made no comment to all questions put to him.

The court was also told about no comment answers given by Howson following his arrest.

Today, the jury will hear of police questioning in which comment was made.

The trial continues.
