Natalie Gumede’s delight after National Television Awards
Former Colne Park High School student Natalie Gumede had plenty of reason to celebrate last night - as two programmes close to her heart scooped National Television Awards.
The ex-Coronation Street star, who left the cobbles last year, was thrilled to see the soap pick up the gong for Best Serial Drama and actress Julie Hesmondhalgh (better known as Coronation Street’s Hayley Cropper) win the prize for Best Serial Drama Performance.
She was also delighted with news that Strictly Come Dancing 2013, in which she was runner-up, beat rival programme X Factor to the title of Best Talent Show.
Writing on Twitter, Natalie, who was unable to attend the star-studded ceremony, said: “Congrats to @itvcorrie @juliehes and @bbcstrictly on their incredible achievements! #NTAs”.
This is not the first time that Natalie, who is on the road with Strictly Come Dancing: The Live Tour, has seen award success. In 2012, she was awarded the trophy for Best Newcomer in the British Soap Awards, and a nomination in the National Television Awards.
And in 2013, she won Best Dramatic Performance and Best Villain at the British Soap Awards.
Other winners from the National Television Awards 2014 were:
Best Documentary: Educating Yorkshire
