Man charged with Barton bottle throw

A man has been charged with throwing a bottle at footballer Joey Barton during a match at Turf Moor, Burnley.

John Pounder (26) of Cedar Avenue, Haslingden, is charged with throwing a missile on to a football playing area contrary to the Football Offences Act 1991 and a Section 4 public order offence of using threatening words or behaviour.

He has been bailed to appear at Burnley Magistrates’ Court on November 22nd.

Police launched an investigation along with Burnley FC after a plastic drinks bottle was thrown at midfielder Barton during the second half of the Championship match between Burnley and Queen’s Park Rangers at Turf Moor on Saturday, October 26th.

A statement from Burnley Football Club said: “Burnley Football Club will not tolerate any aggressive, violent or anti-social behaviour from supporters and will continue to work with the police and the authorities to ensure Turf Moor is a safe and welcoming environment for all.”
