students who received awards for excellence.

The sixth form centre’s top achieving A-level and Advanced Vocational students were recognised for their hard work and commitment which has seen them achieve outstanding results.

Among those receiving accolades were A-level students Catherine Fothergill, a former pupil at Fisher More RC High School, Colne, and Annabel Moorhouse, a former pupil at Bowland High School, Clitheroe, who have gone on to read linguistics at the University of Edinburgh, and Jennifer Wilkinson, a former Bowland pupil, who is reading history at the Royal Holloway, University of London.

Former Blessed Trinity RC College pupil Joshua Butterworth achieved outstanding results in AS Level mathematics, further maths, physics and chemistry as well as A-level maths.

A champagne and canapés reception kicked off the evening, there were performances from performing arts students and a standing 
ovation for advanced level 
music students Lewis Bolton and Ben Fontaine after their rendition of the Frank Sinatra
and Sammy Davis Jr classic “Me and My Shadow”.

Student governor Marina Pongourou, a former pupil of Shuttleworth College, spoke about her experiences of life at Burnley College and former 
A-level student Rebecca Brown, who now works for the Ministry of Defence, gave some useful advice on how 
to take the next step into university or into the world of work.

Also honoured were Brandon Hope and Kerry Holding, as the college’s Sportsman and sportswoman on the year.

Brandon, a former pupil at Shuttleworth College, is now studying sports coaching at the University of Central Lancashire, while Kerry, formerly a pupil of Blessed Trinity RC College, has received a place at the prestigious Carson-
Newman University in 
Tennessee.
