Brother dials 999 and goes to hospital after Barbie doll attack

A MAN who attacked his younger brother with a Barbie doll left him in so much pain he had to go to hospital, a court heard.

Adam Christopher Jackson, who was subject to a suspended prison term at the time, had set about Andrew Jackson with the pink toy after the pair fell out about doing chores. The victim, who was struck on the elbow, dialled 999 and went for treatment for soreness and redness. He couldn’t use his arm.

Burnley Crown Court was told when police arrived Jackson (21) of Pheasantford Street, Burnley, kicked two of them after he refused to be arrested.

The defendant admitted assault by beating and two counts of police assault.

He was bailed until December 15th for a pre-sentence report and was warned he could be jailed.

Mrs Alex Mann (prosecuting) said the victim asked his brother to clean up before the family got home. The defendant refused and lunged at Mr Jackson. The victim raised his arm to block him and defend himself and pushed him away. Jackson then swung the pink toy towards his brother and hit his elbow. Mr Jackson immediately felt pain, stumbled out into the street and managed to dial 999.

Two police officers arrived. The defendant became aggressive and shouted at the three officers. He was asked to calm down and when the officers tried to handcuff him, Jackson was given a couple of knee strikes to stop him kicking out.

Mrs Mann said he connected with two officers, injuring one on the thumb and another on the thigh. When Jackson was in custody he apologised. He had earlier been given a 12-week custodial term, suspended for 18 months.

Mr Nick Cassidy (defending) said Jackson had mental health issues. He suffered from depression, had recently split up with his long-term partner, with whom he had a child, and had moved back into his father’s home.

He and his brother had been asked to do chores and the defendant was chatting on the computer when his brother asked him to clean up. They had a discussion, it became heated and they ended up shouting at each other.

Mr Cassidy said there was mention Jackson had not seen his former partner and child for some time and he hit his brother.

“He picked up the nearest thing to hand, a Barbie doll, and hit his brother on the arm.”
