When the offenders have tried to force their way into more office rooms, they were disturbed by the man and made off. It is believed there were at least two offenders wearing black clothes and balaclavas.

Officers are asking anyone with any information come forward.

PC Carley Gaynor said: “I would appeal to anybody that may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or with any information about this burglary to come forward and speak with Lancashire Police on 101.

“I would also encourage people attending other mosques in the local area to be extra vigilant and to ensure all buildings are secured appropriately at all times.”

“This is a serious offence and I’d urge anybody with information about anybody they suspect could be involved to contact police in confidence.”
