Burnley and Pendle are set to benefit from two new Special Educational Needs (SEN) units.

Lancashire County Council has today approved plans to create the facilities within Brunshaw Primary School in Burnley and Barrowford Primary School.

It follows concerns raised during a consultation from January to February about an increase in traffic and parking in the area around Barrowford Primary School. No responses were received during a consultation from April to May regarding Brunshaw Primary School.

Jacqui Old, the county council’s Executive Director of Education and Children's Services, said: "The demand for specialist provision in Lancashire continues to increase and we are working hard to create and enhance existing provision so that we can fulfil our statutory duties.

"Proposals to create SEN units at Barrowford Primary School and Brunshaw Primary School will mean more children will get the support they need.

"These actions are part of a wider ongoing strategy to boost provision across the county and we remain dedicated to this goal."
