Exclusive opening of the Stonyhurst College Museum and Archives will focus on Catherine the Great
The Stonyhurst Museum and Historic Libraries will be open to the public for one night only during the upcoming Christmas holidays, offering a rare opportunity to experience the college’s remarkable collections after hours.
On Thursday December 11th, guests are invited to an exclusive evening event featuring a special presentation by Dr Jan Graffius, Stonyhurst’s Curator of Collections, on Catherine the Great.
This light-hearted yet insightful talk will explore the life, art, politics and enduring mystique of Russia’s most formidable Empress, all within the historic surroundings of the Stonyhurst Collections.
Perhaps it is the quiet grandeur of the Great Hall, or the chance to stand before treasures such as Shakespeare’s First Folio, Mary Queen of Scots’ Prayer Book and Charles Waterton’s remarkable natural history collection, history surrounds you and every turn.

This December, step into that living history for an intimate evening where Catherine the Great takes centre stage.
Guests will enjoy:
A private presentation by Dr Jan Graffius, Stonyhurst’s Curator of Collections, on Catherine the Great;
A guided exploration of artefacts that illuminate Catherine’s world.
A taste of Catherine’s own indulgence – her lavish favourite pudding, paired with dessert wine.
All this awaits you at the oldest English-speaking museum in the world, home to over 125,000 extraordinary artefacts and historic books.
Limited places are available, and early booking is strongly encouraged to avoid disappointment.
Booking is required, and that tickets are £35 per adult. The evening begins at 7pm.
