Bishop blesses school's new chapel

The children and staff at Sacred Heart RC Primary in Colne welcomed a very special visitor.

The Bishop of Salford, The Rt Rev. John Arnold, visited to celebrate the completion of the school’s chapel.

The opening of the chapel is a significant day in the school’s history and is the accumulation of many hours of hard work by the children, staff and parents.

Headteacher Mr John Robertshaw said: “The chapel project started more than two years ago when we decided to rewrite the school mission statement and create a special place for prayer and reflection in school.

“Using the children’s wonderful ideas we created a visual mission statement that celebrates the uniqueness of our school.

“Working with a design company the children’s ideas were permanently displayed on the walls throughout the school.

“Finally, through many fundraising events and generous parental contributions, we raised enough funds to create our own chapel at the heart of our school. Bishop John’s visit is recognition of everybody’s hard work.”

Bishop John celebrated Mass with the children, blessed the chapel and enjoyed a tour of the school.
