Mystery surrounds the name of national brand planning to open new coffee shop drive-thru in Burnley

A new coffee shop with drive-thru is to be located on the edge of Burnley town centre.

It will occupy the site of a vacant shop known as Adlington House in Adlington Street, across from St Peter’s Centre. The existing building will be demolished as part of plans to support the wider Burnley Retail Park.

A report by a Burnley Council planning officer recommending approval with conditions says: “The application site is a vacant retail unit known as Adlington House together with its associated parking and a small mown area.

“Current access is from Adlington Street. The site is bound by the Sion Baptist Church and its associated surface-level parking to the south, Chapel Street and parking for Burnley Retail Park to the east with the Leeds and Liverpool Canal beyond that.

“The drive-thru unit on the Adlington House site would be towards its western boundary, with the drive-thru lane wrapping around the northern, western and southern boundaries. Vehicle ingress/egress is from Chapel Street.

“There would be 17 parking spaces proposed, including two accessible spaces, two electric charging bays and three cycle hoops provided to the east of the proposed drive-thru unit.

“The building would have lower black brickwork with light grey/oak cladding, and windows and doors would be cream aluminium.

“The majority of the building would be 3.9 metres in height with a Cotswold oak feature box on the roof.

“Opening times are noted between 6am and 10.30pm and a total of 13 full-time jobs are expected to be created.

“The development is considered acceptable for location on the edge of the town centre and there is to be a significant visual improvement as a result of the demolition of the existing structure.

“The application site comprises one of two land parcels in the ownership of North West Portfolio Limited (NWPL), which are separated by Chapel Street and are to come forward in two phases for development.
