Family-run Singh Stores celebrates 30 years at the heart of Barnoldswick

A well-known family business is marking three decades of service to the Barnoldswick community, reflecting on its strong local ties.

Singh Stores, an off-licence and newsagents, was established 30 years ago by a close-knit family team who moved to Barnoldswick and quickly built a life and livelihood in the town.

The business was founded by Lakhbir Singh Randhawa, known locally as “Lakhy”, alongside his wife Sukhdip, affectionately called “Suky”, as well as his brother Balihar Singh and sister-in-law Ranjit Kaur.

Speaking about their journey, the family described how warmly they were welcomed when they first arrived, saying the community helped them feel at home as they raised their children and built their future in the town.

Suky said: “When we first moved to Barnoldswick we were welcomed by the community with open arms and soon found a place for ourselves to call home where we brought our children up.”

Over the years, Singh Stores has expanded its services beyond a traditional newsagents and off-licence, becoming a local hub offering parcel services, lottery, PayPoint, newspapers, and general groceries. The family also went on to open additional stores, including outlets alongside the M65 and another local branch on Albert Road.

The business owners say they remain deeply grateful for the ongoing support they receive from residents on a daily basis. That appreciation was recently highlighted when Lakhbir Singh Randhawa was honoured with a Pride of Barnoldswick award in March, recognising both his contribution to local business and his longstanding commitment to the community.

As Singh Stores celebrates its 30-year milestone, the family say their focus remains the same as it was when they first opened their doors.
