Business blossoms for Colne's The Florist by Wildifire Floral Co as it moves to larger premises
Business is blossoming for a Colne florist that has expanded into larger premises… next door!
The move into its ‘perfect’ new home on Keighley Road marks a special milestone for The Florist by Wildfire Floral Co co owners Sam Williams and Laura King, from humble beginnings in a garden shed.
Sam said: “Laura and I have dreamt of moving into the old corner carpet shop on 216, Keighley Road since the day we first saw it. A chance phone call and cheeky note to the owners set the ball rolling and after months of planning, we got it.

“The new, larger shop will enable us to invite even more customers, friends and neighbours through our doors to share our love of flowers and the joy that they bring.”
Sam added:“It’s going to be an incredible space that will enable us to expand, give back and offer more to the local community. Think floral workshops, social gatherings and a second floor studio that will be available to hire for other creative businesses”
Sam, who has worked in floristry for over 27 years and set up Wildfire Floral Co in 2013, opened The Florist in Colne alongside co-owner Laura in April 2024 – having taken over the long-standing former Hedgehogg Florist.
In May, 2025, the pair also opened The Florist in Barnoldswick, at premises on Clayton Street previously used solely as a workshop studio for the successful wedding florals aspect of Wildfire Floral Co, which creates unique and creative florals for over 100 weddings each year.
“The support from local people and businesses has been truly phenomenal, both in Colne and Barnoldswick,” said Laura.
“We couldn’t have done this without Jo Mounsey, who had been the backbone of Hedgehogg florist for 15 years and Devn Jones, Sam’s right-hand girl on wedding flowers. Between them, and our newest team members, Lauren Thompson and Joanna Marshall, they have excelled in enabling the business to thrive.
Sam added: ““From working in a tiny six foot by eight foot shed in my back garden, in the very early days, to expanding our Colne business and moving into the perfect corner flower shop – this feels like a special milestone.”
