Colne’s gig in the park to help great cause

A selection of bands and solo artists will take to the stage in Alkincoats Park in Colne between noon and midnight on Saturday, June 29th, to raise money for the childhood cancer charity Petal. Headliners will be Liverpool band The Hummingbirds and The 45s, from Carlisle.

Also performing will be Undercover, The Ardenettes, Grace O’Malley, Lewis Birtwell and Mikala, with more to be confirmed.

The 21-year-old lads from Hummingbird have been heavily influenced by music from a simpler time, capturing that unmistakable Liverpool sound that is helping make quite a stir with their feel-good tunes and strong melodic sensibilities.

Winning a host of new fans wherever they play, receiving great reviews as their infectious melodies and hook-laden choruses are the perfect tonic to the current “dour” social climate. The band is also winning music industry awards and is hotly tipped to win the 2013 Mercury Music Prize.

The 45s, a high octane rhythm and blues-inspired band formed by four schoolmates living in Carlisle, comprises of James Green, lead vocals,harmonica, and saxophone, Tom Hamilton-Hughes, lead guitar and vocals, Joe Wyatt, bass guitar and vocals, and Bailey Claringbold on drums.

Metaphorically stepping straight from a 1950’s time machine, sent from Missouri and crash landing in Cumbria, the group come vocally and visually inspired by the sentiment and character of the 50s.
