Twins concert is a sell-out

They rapidly proved one national newspaper’s description of them as “brilliant, formidable virtuosos who show charm, zest and flair”. However, they were also friendly, smiling, relaxed people, inviting the audience to enjoy with them their music. However, they have played to half a million people beamed to arenas throughout Europe and cooperated with many of the top fellow international musicians and major orchestras, collecting many prizes and awards on their way.

The concert started with the Miller’s dance from de Falla’s ballet The Three Cornered Hat. This was followed by Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Prelude and Fugue in E and a piece composed by Peter: Brothers Karamazov, which was greatly enjoyed by the audience. Guitars and the Tango are inseparable and Astor Piazzolla’s Tango Suite for Two Guitars came next. Evocacion, El Puerto and Asturias from Isaac Albeniz’s suite Iberia followed. The final piece of the evening was an arrangement by the twins of El Amor Brujo (The Bewitched Love), a major work by De Falla. This was written as a ballet telling a dramatic story of love, murder and haunting but ending happily. The music is beautiful and original, the last movement featuring the well known Ritual Fire Dance.

Prolonged applause followed and the audience were rewarded with an encore. To prove their versatility the brothers played Bohemian Rhapsody by Freddie Mercury, which they described as classic, but not classical!

After the concert, the talk was all about the Twin’s amazing musicianship and the enjoyment of an interactive relationship between the players and the audience. Many commented on how privileged Clitheroe was to hear such brilliant musicians. The audience itself was interesting, coming from all over the North West and attracting promoters of both jazz and rock music. They all had one thing in common after the concert, they were smiling!

The Mayor of Clitheroe, Coun. Mark French and his Mayoress, his wife Jill, said they were now totally hooked on the Concert Society and would be back.

The Society’s next concert will be on December 7th when the highly talented Gildas Quartet play what they describe as “probably their most epic programme of the year”: Haydn’s Lark quartet, Bartok’s String Quartet No. 1 and Schubert’s Death and the Maiden’ quartet.
