In pictures: Colne comes alive as 35th Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival gets under way

Colne was packed with music lovers on Friday as the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival got its 35th anniversary celebrations under way in style.

The opening night saw live music taking over venues across the town, with festivalgoers enjoying performances at the Pendle Hippodrome, The Muni Theatre and The Fort Vale Little Theatre, as well as throughout the busy Official Fringe.

Thousands of visitors are expected in Colne across the August Bank Holiday weekend for what is one of the area’s biggest and longest-running music festivals.

This year’s event is particularly special, marking 35 years of the festival and coming just months after it was inducted into the UK Blues Hall of Fame.

Across the weekend, 50 artists are performing at the three main venues, while more than 180 performances are taking place at 17 venues as part of the Official Fringe.

Friday night provided the first taste of what promises to be a memorable weekend, with packed venues and a lively atmosphere across the town.
