Game review: Sniper Elite 3

One of my favourite things about games like Call of Duty and Battlefield is the sniping element there are a number of Sniping type games out there but none as good as Sniper elite, and now Rebellion and 505 games have released Sniper Elite 3.

Sniper Elite`s main selling point has been the kill cam with graphic slow motion/x-ray shots of your bullet tearing someone apart and with sniper elite 3 we are not disappointed, in fact it is even more graphic than the last one.

This latest outing takes place in the desert of North Africa in World War 2 oddly enough a subject not often covered in war games, so instead of sneaking around derelict buildings you are a little more exposed in this one.

Graphics are much better this time as well with much more detail, movement is much more fluid and with the ability to roam more than before (but not completely)

Rebellion have really tweaked this game, and the gameplay is solid with plenty of objectives and sub-objectives available and unlike its predecessor you can complete them in any order.

Another new feature is the ability to take out vehicles with shots( this also includes a kill cam) you can also plant mines, trip wires or timed explosives so it’s not all about shooting.

There is a nice array of weapons available as you progress with plenty of upgrades.

Sniper Elite is basically a stealth game and unlike the previous version the guards are a little more forgiving, like a real sniper you have to relocate after a shot and the game allows you to do this very effectively with a signal on your HUD, the thing I like about Sniper Elite is it doesn`t have to be about shooting you can lure enemies away set traps for them etc , it’s a much more tactical kind of game, and of course if that’s not your thing then headshots it is.

One good element brought in from Sniper Elite 2 is the binoculars, with the option to tag your targets so you can keep an eye on them, very handy when you have multiple targets to hit.

The single player campaign has plenty of variety and works really well, of course throw a friend into the mix and it’s a whole new ball game, the entire campaign can be played as a co-op enabling both players to be snipers or mix it up with one as spotter and the other as sniper and it works really well.

Rebellion have also thrown in a couple of other “special Co-op modes “Over watch and survival the first being a couple of specific missions with carefully planned objectives and both players are restricted in some way to make them work together, good stuff but not very long missions.

Survival is a basically trying to survive waves of enemies and rank up the highest score.

Summary

Sniper Elite 3 is by far the best one yet, graphics are great and the game play is solid and entertaining can`t really fault it to be honest, so if sniping is your thing then this is for you.
