A festival of fun on the canal

Wonderful and wet weather combined to produce two very different days for this year's Burnley Canal Festival.

Glorious weather on Saturday saw crowds flock to Burnley’s historic Sandygate area of town to enjoy entertainment on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.And although Sunday was wet and windy, the inclement weather did not dampen the spirits of the Burnley public who instead made their way inside Victoria Mill for indoor attractions.The Festival programme brought together canal traditions with contemporary performance, music, arts workshops and street food.Melanie Diggle, from organisers Mid Pennine Arts, said: “The whole weekend was amazing although it did have a feel of a festival of two halves.“Saturday was amazing and much better than we anticipated even. Unfortunately the weather was very wet on the Sunday, but our partners UCLan were very kind in accommodating us in Victoria Mill.“The whole weekend had a fantastic atmosphere and we would like to thank everyone who took part and supported us.”Highlights included an eclectic global music stage featuring the Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band, arts and crafts workshops and games.
