Sophie aiming to retain her British title

Sophie Hitchon will go for a fourth-successive hammer title at the Muller British Athletics Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham this weekend.

And, with the European Athletics Championships in Berlin in August, a packed summer also takes in the Athletics World Cup at the London Stadium on July 14th and 15th.

Hitchon unveiled the medals for the new event last week, and said: “World number one and two this year are from the USA, so that’s going to be tough, then obviously there’s Anita (Włodarczyk), the World record holder from Poland, and France and China have great hammer throwers, so there will be some good competition.

“It’s going to be fun, two nights of fast-paced track and field, and it’s going to be great.”
