Snooker ace Paul caps debut season with knockout trophy

PARADISE Club’s Paul Averill capped an impressive debut season in the Burnley and District Snooker League with the capture of the Singles Knockout Trophy.

Averill faced Graeme Farrington in the final and the Ighten Mount cueist - receiving 25 off Averill - took a close first frame on the big table.

However, Averill took control of the tie on the small table with a potent potting display, before winning the head-to-head on his return to the big table. And the title was sealed in the fourth frame with a 66 break.

Meanwhile, with six matches left in the Pendle Kitchens Burnley and District Snooker League, both Burnley Golf Club teams are fighting for honours in their respective divisions. The A team is currently battling for the title with Burnley Snooker Club A in the top tier, while the B team is running away with the championship.

Both teams also have players going very well in the order of merit, with Mark Ridgeway showing superb form for the A team, and Kim Stevens and captain John Wray doing the same for the B team.

There’ll also be an enticing finish at the other end of the A Division, with five teams fighting to escape relegation.
