The Championships are the biggest event of the British alpine skiing calendar and feature the best the nation has to offer.

The event also showcases the most promising young racers during the second week of the Championships in the children’s races, such as the promising Holmes.

“It was really good, some sections weren’t too bad at all,” said the racer.

“I was bib number 15 so the conditions had gotten really soft, quite bumpy and I was lucky to stay on my feet but I’m happy, I’m pleased.

“It’s good starting off with a high, hopefully more podiums to come.

“There’s so much as stake, the titles, and impressing people.

“The British Champs are the biggest races of the season, you have to deliver. It’s a really nice place to race but it’s usually quite soft, so hard to ski.”

Holmes grew up a skier having spent a lot of time with his family on the slopes, which clearly gave him an edge in the race.

“I’ve skied on dry slopes for quite a long time, I used to go on family holidays since I was about two and I started racing about two years ago on dry slopes.

“This is my third year on snow, so it’s good. I train in Pendle, Castleford, and out with Evolution in the winter.

“There’s selection for U18 and U21 British teams and this is going to be the main competition where it’s judged, so hoping for that but it’s not the end of the world if I don’t get into that.”
